Peanuts!!!

As many of you know, I am allergic to peanuts. Yesterday while I was cleaning out a cupboard, Avalee saw a jar of peanuts and wanted some. So I dumped about ten peanuts in a bowl. She put all the peanuts in her mouth at once and ran off. About ten minutes later, I went to put her down for her nap. She had chewed about half of the peanuts but was sucking on them. She couldn't talk because her mouth was full. I tried to get her to spit them out but she wouldn't. I had no desire to touch them so I held her over the kitchen sink and plugged her nose (learned this trick from giving Lincoln medicine twice a day). She finally had to open her mouth to breathe and start to gag because she tried to swallow. She couldn't swallow them so she finally spit out the peanuts out of her mouth. She was very mad at me, and I put her down for a nap screaming "more peanuts."

I don't think I will be giving her peanuts when Nathan is not around. Yuck!

Tonsillectomy vs. C-Section

As some of you know, I just had my tonsils out. Lincoln was born via c-section six months earlier. People told me that getting your tonsils out was worse than having a baby so I have decided to compare the two.

Operation-You spend three hours in the hospital for tonsils and three days in the hospital for a c-section.

Recovery-When I woke up from getting my tonsils out, I had a young child on either side of me (it made me sad.) When I came out of the operation room after the c-section, they put Lincoln in the NICU (this made me sad).

First Time Out of Hospital Bed-Less than two hours after I had my tonsils out, I had walked to the car. It did not hurt to walk but I had developed charley horse from having my legs strapped to the table. Twelve hours after having a c-section at 4 a.m. in the morning, I had a nurse bribing me to get out of bed. She told me that she would take me to NICU if I would just get up and take one step to the wheelchair. For anyone who has had a c-section, you know how much energy and will power this takes.

Phone Calls-It took me 12 days before I could talk on the phone after getting my tonsils out. It took me two hours before I called my mom after having a c-section (couldn't use our cell phone in the recovery room.)

Driving-I could drive within 24 hours of getting my tonsils out. I couldn't drive for 2 weeks after having a c-section.

Weight Loss-I lost ten pounds after having my tonsils out due to starvation. I lost ten pounds after having a c-section because they took Lincoln out of me and he weighed almost nine pounds.

Energy-It was impossible to get energy after having my tonsils out due to lack of nutrition. After having a c-section it was hard to get energy because Lincoln kept waking up every three hours.

Sneezing-Both operations are bad for sneezing. Tears come to your eyes.

Overall recovery-It took two weeks for me to get back with life. After having Lincoln it took me almost two months.

Avalee was running towards her Grandma Wood and hit the bricks. In a matter of two minutes, she had a bump the size of a circus peanut on her head. We took her to the emergency room and they told us to wake her up every two hours during the night and make sure she responded to us. The first time Nathan woke her up. He picked her up and she hit him. Nathan laid her back down. The second time I woke her up. She said, "Hurt, fall down." She went back to sleep. This is a picture of the bruise two days after it happened. It has been almost three weeks and the bruise is barely noticeable. Posted by Hello

Peek-a-boo! I see you! Avalee played peek-a-boo with Lincoln and they both giggled. Should have had the camcorder not the camera. Posted by Hello

Avalee's Lecture

Avalee decided this weekend that she no longer wanted to wear a diaper. This was bad timing as Nathan and I were stretched thin trying to take care of both kids, Grandma Wood, and the boys. Friday night Avalee took her diaper off and peed all over the bed. She woke up and cried "Daddy, daddy" for a long time so Nathan went to check on her (I was sleeping at the house with Grandma Wood). Needless to say, she was cold from sleeping in pee. Nathan changed her and the bed. He then gave her a lecture about leaving her diaper on and using the potty if she was not going to leave her diaper on.

Sunday night Christian, Avalee, and I were in the car heading to get Barry from the airport. Christian and I heard Avalee say to her baby that she was playing with, "wet, stinky, no baby, poop, potty". Christian and I laughed so hard. I guess Nathan's lecture during the middle of the night made an impression on her. Now if we can only get her potty trained.
